The city of Miyakonojo, where our distillery is located, is in the southwest of Miyazaki prefecture and it used to be the territory of the Satsuma Domain in earlier times. Integrated culture both from Miyazaki and Kagoshima Prefectures, this is a town of “Agriculture, forestry and livestock industry” that has been developed by utilizing the benefits of the land.
This is a region eager to challenges that lead to the production of popular processed products. Utilizing the agricultural and livestock products from this vast land. There are numerous food and beverage manufacturers known nationwide in this area.
Miyakonojo Basin is surrounded by the Kirishima Mountain Range in the Northwest and Mt. Wanitsuka in the East. This region is known for high-temperatures and high-humidity and is suitable for fermentation. The river running through the center of town is the Shonai River which is a tributary of the Oyodo River. The Sekinoo Waterfall descends into the Shonai River and is recognized as one of Japan’ s Top 100 Waterfalls. Plenty of spring water from the Kirishima Mountain Range and from the waterfall flows underground. This is very beneficial because SHOCHU brewing requires a large quantity of pure water.
